With increase interest in freeze dried flowers, the use of the freeze drying machine come into play. This process is labor intensive and time consuming, but allows special flowers to last indefinitely. The flowers go through a process in which water is removed as vapor directly from ice, without becoming liquid. The machine’s temperature drops to
-20 degrees F slowly returning the flowers to room temperature, allowing them to keep their original form & color. 3 reasons freeze drying works so well is—freezing slows or stops chemical reactions; process occurs under a vacuum minus oxygen; & is done at very low temperatures, taking approximately 4 weeks. After careful removal from the machine, dip each flower individually in a solution to seal the flower leaving them soft & pliable. (Dry for minimum of 36-48 hours) & they’re ready for your creative touch.
Flower preservation has been a much needed boost for the floral industry.
